Los Angeles VoIP Providers

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Not all Los Angeles VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) providers are the same. You have to read the fine print to know what they are worth. It’s true that switching to Internet phone brings continual savings by virtually eliminating long distance charges, but the effectiveness of the service really depends on the provider’s network of bandwidth highways.

Los Angeles VoIP technology is truly taking off. More and more businesses are realizing the technological benefits as well as the savings that can be had through switching to an Internet phone. What that has created, however, is a surge of VoIP traffic on the Internet highway, resulting in traffic jams and subsequent delays of service.

While VoIP allows for free local calling, free zone calling and free calling to other VoIP phones, you can sometimes trade quality of service for these savings. The quality of the service is dependent on available bandwidth, which some companies overburden and stress with too many users, leading to frustrating interruptions of service and poor quality. If you choose a provider, however, who keeps a well-integrated network that allows for a freer travel of bandwidth, your service will have minimal disruptions without the bad reception.

Maintaining a continual traffic flow is not hocus pocus, nor is it a matter of luck. It’s simply a wiser routing and management of the traffic. Internet phone lines based on a number of alternating routes in order to allow for a  non-interrupted flow of bandwidth, will suffer fewer problems and delays of service.

Ask your company how many loops or links it takes to provide your VoIP service. Ideally, there should be only one or two loops, giving you the most direct connection possible. It’s also important how fully switched the network is. The more alternate paths that are available, the better and more continual the flow of bandwidth will be. If the provider is seeing high traffic through one stream, for example, the bandwidth can easily be rerouted in order for flow to be uninterrupted for the most reliable service possible.

Find out how well integrated your provider’s networks are. It will mean a world of difference in the quality of service you’ll enjoy, not to mention save you plenty of headaches in the long run.

Green bulbs grow strong plants

If you are a gardener, chances are you care deeply for the environment. It’s the source of our all our food. It sustains and nurtures us all. When you’re growing plants, you want optimal growing potential that’s also beneficial to the environment. It simply doesn’t make sense to tax and stress the earth in the name of healthy vegetables.

Traditional lighting systems use a tremendous amount of energy, which costs not only your electric bill but the health of the planet itself. Wasted energy depletes the earth and contributes to Global Warming. Grow LED and growing LED lights, however, use a small amount of energy to produce a great deal of light, and better yet, they don’t produce heat. They are cheap to use, optimize your energy usage, and don’t dry out the plants and the soil with unnecessary heat damage.

Plus, these lights are extremely long lasting. Most Grow LED and growing LED systems can last up to 50,000 hours, some as long as 20 years. Most bulbs wear out quickly, and when they’re spent, you’re left with a useless light bulb that ends up in the trash. LED lights can last decades, so you get an optimal amount of energy with a fraction of the waste.

LED lights also don’t contain mercury, eliminating the poisons we put into the environment. That’s good news for plants, the earth, and our water sources. If not disposed of properly, traditional lights can release a contaminated supply of mercury into the earth, which takes its toll. Less mercury in a landfill means fewer toxins in our water supply.

LED’s can be expensive, depending on the selection available. Usually, however, deals can be found on-line, which can make them more affordable with a little bit of research. Any expense, however, pays back in the long term, when you consider that the LED lights will last years, continuing to enrich your plants long after traditional grow lights are rusting in the landfills, excreting mercury into our water supply.

One of the easiest ways to minimize your carbon footprint is using LED lights instead of fluorescent lighting. It’s cost effective when you consider how long LED lasts. LED lights also use a wavelength of ultraviolet light that’s ideal for plant growth, providing your plants superior light over for a healthier growth. LED offers many practical benefits that are as green as their environmental sustainability.

Virtual repairs made easy

Because of the portability of most laptops, the process of laptop repair can sometimes involve shipping the malfunctioning laptop to a repair center at a remote location. In my experience, laptops are generally pretty solid pieces of hardware. I’ve had far fewer issues with my laptops over the years than with my desktops, but I’m sure there are many of you out there for whom the opposite is true. Years ago, laptops were generally viewed as a complementary piece of computing equipment. The laptop gave us the convenience to take our computer with us on business and to stay connected to the office from virtually anywhere.

Now, the laptop is the primary computing platform for many people in many lines of work. Just as the mobile phone is slowly eliminating the need to have a land line in our home, the laptop is gradually becoming the primary computing device for professionals in the United States and around the world. And I’m not just talking about the look-at-me-while-I-write coffee shop tools, but people who are actually working on a daily basis for companies that make money. With laptops playing such a key role in global commerce, the importance of laptop repair will only increase.

As noted previously, there are many options for shipping your laptop away for repair. Starting with the original manufacturer, there are many places that will allow you to mail your laptop in and have it returned to you repaired within a designated timeframe. There are also several storefront locations that exist in most areas that are able to take laptop drop-offs and make the necessary repairs onsite. Even this process presents a distinct convenience advantage over the process of trying to get a desktop computer repaired. Because of the size and weight associated with the desktop, shipping it away for service is generally not feasible and transporting it to a location for service is also a monumental hassle.

In contrast, laptop repair is usually fairly easy to facilitate and, as long as you have a back-up computing option at your disposal, the process shouldn’t present any significant inconvenience. A quick search online should return several legitimate options for servicing your laptop – and may offer a direct consulation that will allow you to make the necessary repair yourself. Not that I would recommend tinkering with the inside of a laptop, but I’m sure many of you out there wouldn’t hesitate to give it a shot.

Some digital advice for aspiring athletes

Friday, February 6th, 2009

It’s a story I hear all the time: students going out for a sport at the beginning of their high school career only to be cut from the team (and their pride) after a few short weeks of putting in hours at practice every week day and on the weekends. For every wide-eyed freshman, high school football can be the path to popularity or to shame because every high school’s football team is adored, while those who get cut are, unfortunately, relegated to outcast status. It doesn’t take much to make the cut; all it takes is some perspective, some hard work, and a few pointers. At the freshman level, no coach really expects his players to have great skills or technique; after all, if athletes came in knowing how to play, why would they need a teacher? What coaches are looking for in those first few weeks is a great attitude and the willingness to get into shape if you aren’t already. Any coach at any level of any sport will tell you that the best attributes for any athlete are a good attitude and good conditioning. These two things will allow anyone to succeed to all but the superstar levels of any sport, since they will be able to acquire all of the technical and managerial skills they need to succeed more easily than players who are less committed, less focused, or in poor condition. As far as the personality component is concerned, coaches look favorably on players who are committed to the team and committed to doing whatever it takes to be good at a sport. Within the first few weeks of starting practice, freshman high school football players can demonstrate a good attitude by showing up to practice early. Asking the coach for particular recommendations for training – drills and exercises – will demonstrate a desire to learn and a to become a part of the team. Conditioning is the second component that coaches look for. If you aren’t in good shape, you’ll be forgiven; coaches love being able to sculpt slow but committed athletes into quick and strong football machines. Leveraging a positive attitude by seeking out help with a conditioning program will demonstrate your desire to invest in yourself and thus in the team’s success. Starting a program of weight training and aerobics will have an immediate impact on your stamina and your ability to focus during practices, making you a stand-out .Unfortunately, many young high school students consider their ability to make the cut on the freshman football team the most important factor of their high school experience because it will lead to a better social life, better chances at college acceptance, and a lot of fun on the field. Thankfully for those who weren’t born with a golden arm, coaches at this level are really looking for a good attitude and good athleticism to make you a good team player.
